Unit 5 Update

March 16, 2016

Hi Everyone:

Just wanted to give an update on some issues:

Email- We have approximately 300 people in our Unit 5, of that we have 120 e-mail addresses. In today’s environment it is imperative that we communicate!  As much as we don’t like it e-mail is effective. With that being said, If you get the updates please open and read!  Tell your fellow co-workers you are getting the updates and ask them if they are on the e-mail list if they say no have them call the hall 602-331-7019 and get on it! They can also go tour webpage www.cwa7019.org and click the button to be added to list. This e-mail system isn’t just for our unit it will be utilized when it comes to bargaining.  This is important! Please talk to your co-workers and lets all get updated!!!

Grievances- There are 2 grievances filed for the Supply Attendants. First one is we still have technicians in every yard doing the ordering. I have verified in six other states that there are no technicians doing this work and we need to be one of them. If you are doing the ordering please stop, also tell the others to stop. I’m sure you don’t want a SA out there at your xbox or SNI.  The other is for the new Prism manage system, the technicians have been advised to do the scanning. The only SA’s that are allowed to do this are the ones that are but in seat at that yard.  They need their jobs please stop doing it for them.

There is a grievance for a transfer bypass.

And of course there are a couple for Union/Company relationship.

Safety- HVP training…this is very simple if you have not been trained don’t do any work that may involve HVP. SRP and APS are converting their T1’s this work will include getting into those cabinets. Please be safe, be trained if there is a problem call me or your Area Rep.

Safety Meetings- I have asked to be informed when your safety meetings are so that I may attend. It’s hard to see the members with all the reporting locations; we have techs all over the valley I can’t get everywhere before you start. Some managers have been very good about sending me the invites, others not so much. I am working on it.  In these meetings I get to share information that is on the radar and informally address issues the crew may be having or just answer general questions.  I hope to see you soon. If you know you have a meeting coming up call me 602-688-0020 let me know and I will be there. I haven’t been kicked out yet.

6500’s- It’s a new and with that you must re-submit your 6500 request. They are purged every year. Do not wait for the opening to become available. Just do it now so you don’t miss your opportunity.

Meetings- We continue to have our Unit 5 meeting the 1st Wednesday of each month. If there is a Good and Welfare meeting on the same date we will combine our meetings. With our contract coming up it will be important to get information on what will be coming up.

Coverages/Investigations- If you get called into the bosses office for a meeting and you feel it may lead to discipline in the future you are entitled to a union rep. call me 602-688-0020 I will get someone there or I will be there.

Rapid Recovery Work- This is a slow time for Designed Services it has been discussed that we take some of our work back. It will also help with the missed due dates that are occurring in the Rapid work load. This should have already started and CDT’s should be getting some of that work.

MOE- There are discussions going on about where this work falls in the Wage scale matrix. Please stay tuned for more information regarding this.

Double time arbitration award- YES the Union won this!  I’m sure if you ask the company they will simply say they may have been a little less than right…lol! This is where we are, the company was to re-program their payroll system to reflect double time correctly that was to be done 2/26, at that time they were to present their changes to the Union. The company said they are trying to identify the problems and submit to their IT…and that’s it! We are trying to schedule an update call with the District to see what’s next…

Vacation Slots- If there are any issues/questions or suggestions with your crew vacation slots please call me 602.688.0020. If there needs to be some adjustments to weeks or something we can work on those. The ones that have come up we have adjusted and worked it out so our members are getting their needs met.

Local Convention- Our local convention has been set for August 27th at UFCW hall 2401 N Central registration starts at 8am called to order at 9am sharp, call the hall and register as a guest or delegate elections will be coming up, run and come as a delegate.

That’s it for now, if you have questions call me 602-688-0020. Please print/copy this and put it on a union board. See you at the next meeting April 6th 7pm at the union hall. Don’t forget to like us us on Facebook CWA Local 7019, follow us on Twitter @cwa7019, Instagram CWA7019az. Visit our webpage www.cwa7019.org.

Unit 5 Report

August 2014

Hello Unit 5,
Just a few things:

All of our surpluses have been resolved and none of our members hit the street.

Safety is still on our radar please make sure you are staying hydrated and cool if you need additional breaks just let your manager know.

It looks like the company has decided to start enforcing their Link to Success aka, QJD it is important to be where you are supposed to be, the company still has GPS. If your manager calls you in to cover you and you feel this may lead to disciplinary action you have a right to a union representative.

If you want to move locations make sure you have your 6500 in.

It’s getting to be that time of year to make sure if you want to schedule carryover get it in early.

Also, everyone in this company has a job to do it is important that we let everyone do the job they are in.

The 2014 Convention is September 20th if you are interested in attending please call Debbie at the hall to get additional information.

We still have a unit meeting the 1st Wednesday of each month at the hall at 7pm.

That’s it for now.

June, 2014

Hello Unit 5,

Just a few things,

COEIT Surplus has been resolved; all of the affected COEIT’s have been placed and are no longer at risk! We still have the CPE Technician surplus that is unresolved. The resolution date for that is July 28th.

There have been grievances filed and resolved regarding the work loading process of Design/HSI/POTS rotation and training assignments. Here is the company disposition regarding Design rotation and POTS:

The APS will work with the LRAC/CIA to ensure design service provisioning work is loaded evenly among the technicians assigned to their specific garage location and wire center responsibility.  This is to ensure one technician is not loaded with all the available design services provisioning work while others have none loaded for the day.  An exception will be made if the technician had already dispatched on the design service provisioning order and did some work on the order.  In this case, the order will be loaded back to the technician who dispatched and did some work on the order and will not be assigned to another technician.  In the event there is a due date or escalated order requiring immediate dispatch and the original technician is unavailable to dispatch on the order, the order will be loaded to another technician for dispatch and completion.

When there is none or not enough available design service provisioning work for technicians assigned to their specific garage location or wire center responsibility, those technicians will be loaded first with design service repair tickets and if none are available, will be assigned POTS or HSI work.

Technicians who are assigned to work in the POTS/HSI work load will be selected via inverse seniority on a continual rotation per crew.  If volunteers are available, volunteers will be utilized.

In the event a technician is unavailable to work the day of their assigned rotation, they will be scheduled the 1st available work day following the day missed on the rotation.”

The training disposition has not been received yet and I will post when I get it.
If you are interested in moving job locations within your title please make sure your 6500 is in and updated.

2014 Convention delegate elections will be held at our July unit meeting on the 9th of July at 7pm. We still have a unit meeting the 1st Wednesday of each month at the hall at 7pm.

That’s it for now.

January 2014

Happy New Year Unit 5,
Here is what has been going on…

Payroll: We have received many calls and emails regarding payroll errors. We have been advised that the company is aware of these issues and that SAP has some programming issues. Please email payroll with your concern if it is not resolved please let your steward or area rep know. Once SAP is set up correctly the company will do an audit to ensure everyone is paid correctly. We will notify the members when these issues have been resolved.

Verify your payroll!!

This is your money make sure you are getting paid correctly!

Contracts: At this time the contract is not on line and has not gone to print. We have been advised they (CTL/CWA) are still proofing. If you want a hard copy, you must request one from your supervisor. Please use the TA mailed with your ballot for new language until contracts are available.

Local Agreements:  Have been extended until 1/31/14 at that time the new ones will posted on our website and will go into effect.

6500’s:  If you want to move via 6500 make sure it is in.  3 requests can be on file.

Footwear Policy:  This is changing daily you may want to wait until end of March to see what the final outcome will be.

Yard Visits:  We are doing yard visits and the schedule is posted on the website. It has also been e-blasted.

Non-Members The non-members are posted by unit on our webpage. Check it out and see who is and who isn’t your union brother and sister!

There is a Unit 5 meeting the 1st Wed of each month at the union hall.  If you have any questions or concerns this is a great place and time to get answers, Please join us!

September 2013

Hello Unit 5,

Here is what has been going on…

That time of the year is here, time to schedule carry over! If you haven’t done it do it ASAP so that we can get going the canvassing for 2014.

If you want to go to a different location or job function make sure your 6500 is in. The list was purged 01/01/13 so you must resubmit after that date.

If there is training you want to attend for a future job function let your supervisor know and get on the list.

Just an FYI there has been some managers that think there is a 10% rule, (in that they think they have the right to do craft work up to 10%). They could not be any more wrong…There is no such rule and or language ANYWHERE! So if you see a manager doing craft work, call your Union Rep, ASAP.  All managers/supervisors have been notified and have said they have a clear understanding that they are not allowed.

On September 25th the ballots for contract ratification were counted and this local has voted NO by a 2:1 ratio.  These results will be given to the District and they will advise the locals of the outcome then notify the company on Monday.

For those members asking “what happens if the agreement is not ratified”?  Here are several alternatives under the law:

1.     If this Agreement is not ratified we would request the two parties return to the bargaining table.  Once the Tentative Agreement is rejected, the provisions outlined   in the tentative agreement come off the table and we return to square one to meet with the same people we had been meeting with for the last 11½ months.  Both parties would have the right to make new/different proposals.

2.     The Company could take the position prior to returning to the table that they are terminating the current, extended contract.  The Company could implement this tentative agreement or selected portions of the agreement.  Once the contract has been terminated we lose the ability to arbitrate disputes that arise after the termination of the contract.

3.     The Company could lock us out.

4.     We could strike.  If we went on strike, it would be classified as an economic strike meaning we could be permanently replaced.

There is a Unit 5 meeting the 1st Wed of each month at the union hall.  If you have any questions or concerns this is a great place and time to get answers, Please join us!

April 9, 2013

Hello Unit 5 Members:

Here is a quick run-down on what’s been happening

CDT”s – Design CDT’s continue to get loaded into POTS and have been training in DSL/HSI this was explained to the union as a way to get back big business work for Design as well as keep everyone working.  It also has been relieving the OT on the POTS side of the house.  CDT’s required to do this work should have the correct meters, if you do not please ask your manager and then talk to your Steward or Area Rep.  There hasn’t been much in the area of grievances, which is always good news.  due to the loss of Load Specialist the dispatchers are being cross-trained in the LRAC please be patient and remember ALL calls are recorded!

All 6500 lists have been purged, so if you would like to 6500 to another location please resubmit your requests.  Safety rodeos will be starting soon just an FYI.  It is extremely important that you are where you are dispatched, this is for everyone!

COT’s- Not much going on in the CO world, there has been some movement of the switch crew assigned to different managers however they remain as a crew.  The company has requested that the COT’s not make any changes in units.  They are trying to verify their numbers and requests.

Union Business – Bargaining has resumed and you can hear the Thursday night call on Friday you can get the user id and password from the hall or your union rep.

There is a petition going around to send to Glen Post for his threatening language in his last e-mail to employees.  Specifically, the language regarding the threat of using their contingency plan.

We have CWA 7019 red hats, if interested you can purchase at the union hall or call your union rep to get one.

At our last unit meeting it was discussed whether to continue with monthly unit meetings or switch to a quarterly meeting, it was decided to continue with monthly meetings on the 1st Wed of each month.  Next month we will have a financial advisor on hand to answer questions regarding retirement, etc.

Our next convention will be September 21, 2013 at the IBEW 640 hall.  We will be having delegate elections at our June meeting.  If you are interested please submit your nomination and acceptance by Jun 5, to the S/T at the hall.

The golf tournament will be held October 5 at Kokopelli stay tuned for more information.

Our unit meeting is the 1st Wednesday of each month at our hall starting at 7pm please attend to get involved with your union and your future!!  It’s going to take all of us!!
